I’m a founding member of technical staff at Discovery Loop, where we’re building AI systems that automate machine learning, science and engineering. We are hiring.

I spent 12 years at Google DeepMind, most recently as a Distinguished Research Scientist working on recursive self-improvement for Gemini.

During that time, I built internal prototypes that led to the creation of AI Mode and prototypes that led to the adoption of Generative UI components in Google Search.

Before that I led two teams at DeepMind: DLX (working on generative models, self-supervised learning and multimodal language models), and the Quantum Chemistry and Materials team.

Earlier, I was a postdoctoral researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge with John Winn, and did my PhD at the University of Edinburgh with Christopher Williams.
